Chapter 70 Pills
"Angela, you have two choices now. I can negotiate with Detective Calderon who is in charge of you. You have 24 hours before the case is officially handed over."
"I choose the first one."
Angela immediately agreed without waiting for Superintendent Gray to say the second option. As a veteran patrol officer, she had been to many similar crime scenes, but patrol officers were usually only responsible for protecting the scene and doing odd jobs. How about now? It's easy to become a replacement police detective. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.
"Let me assist 'Detective' Angela."
Jack also volunteered. He had recently acquired entry-level forensic skills, and it was his first time encountering such a vicious home invasion crime. How could he miss it.
Superintendent Gray nodded: "Tell me what you discovered."
Jack also took out a small notebook. This was the preliminary inquiry he and Angela made after Kristen and his wife stabilized their emotions just now.
"According to the couple's description, the assailant was two men, both wearing ski masks. They were white men, possibly Latino, and were between five feet nine inches (175 centimeters) and five feet eleven inches (180 centimeters) tall. Medium, medium height.”
"The guy who assaulted Mrs. Christine was wearing white sneakers with a red triangle pattern on them. We have reported the above information to the command center and they will issue a wanted warrant."
Superintendent Gray looked satisfied and was about to turn around. Then he thought of something and asked the two of them.
"Is there anything else that needs to be brought to the attention of the forensic officers? They are very busy today and it will take about two hours to arrive at the scene."
"Well"
Jack looked at Angela and saw her mouthing at the door, and suddenly said: "That visual doorbell has a piece of electrical tape stuck on the camera position. They may be able to collect fingerprints from it."
Superintendent Gray nodded again with satisfaction.
"I'm going to meet the two victims. I need to convince Mrs. Christine to undergo a forensic examination. I suggest you inspect the scene before the forensic investigators arrive, but be careful not to cause damage."
Returning to the crime scene on the second floor, Jack and Angela felt heavy again. A young life passed away in front of their eyes. Even if they are strangers, the unique ability of human empathy can still make people depressed.
Angela put on rubber gloves and lifted the corpse's right arm. Jack was surprised to find that there was a bullet hole in the elbow joint.
He quickly looked at the bullet holes on the back of the body. From the damaged clothes, he could see that the bullet holes were larger here, and the surrounding skin had a starburst shape, and he suddenly realized.
"This is actually a bullet wound, which means the bullet entered from the elbow joint, along the humerus, penetrated the entire arm, and finally exited from the back. The bullet interrupted the artery, causing him to bleed to death."
Angela gave him a strange look: "Are you planning to compete with me for the position of police detective? When did you start studying forensic science?"
Jack wanted to touch the back of his head out of habit, but soon realized that he was wearing rubber gloves and had just touched a body.
"I have read several forensic medicine books during the two days of vacation. Dr. Temple Breonna has a very interesting book on the human skeleton. I recommend you to try it."
Angela shook her head and sighed. Her partner was good-looking and eye-catching. In a few months, the tacit understanding between the two was better than any of her previous partners, but he was too curly.
It took her nearly ten years to barely reach the position of a police detective. Less than half a year after joining the LAPD, she was already a promising star. It would take at most two years to become a detective as soon as she got the qualifications. .
The most annoying thing is that I can't feel jealous or use gender issues to explain things. This guy's efforts and progress are obvious to all in the branch.
But Angela was still very competitive. She pointed at the deceased's mouth: "Tell me about the liquid flowing out of his mouth?"
Jack hesitated for a moment and answered with some uncertainty: "Pulmonary edema secretions?"
"What causes pulmonary edema?"
Jack was a little stuck, and this was a little too much for him.
"Bronchitis or opioid addiction." Angela said with a victorious smile on her face.
"If it's the latter, this case is interesting."
Jack murmured to himself, looking around the corners of the bedroom.
Angela blocked a certain angle with her body without leaving any trace, and then continued to ask.
"Why don't you continue to tell me what you think."
Jack followed the good advice and put forward his opinions point by point.
"There are no obvious signs of struggle here, and no boxes have been rummaged through. One of the intruders was venting his beastly lust downstairs. What did the other want to do when he brought the deceased into his bedroom?"
"It doesn't make sense that he was trying to assault him. The bed was clean and tidy and the deceased's clothes were not disheveled."
Jack suddenly had an idea: "Is there a possibility that the murderer and the deceased knew each other? They gave up the couple's master bedroom where valuables may be stored, and instead came to the son's bedroom because there is something they need here."
Angela smiled slightly and turned sideways.
"Like some kind of prescription drug."
There was a wardrobe behind her, and on one side of the wardrobe lay a small pill on the floor.
Jack took a step forward and found that the wooden board on the side of the wardrobe was slightly tilted. He fiddled with it slightly and could see inside. There were several identical white pills scattered between the side wall of the wardrobe and the drawer.
Angela took out her phone and took two photos of this location.
"I'll need forensics to take it back for testing later, but I can tell at a glance that it's Oxycontin."
Jack curled his lips secretly, and most of his original sympathy for the deceased suddenly disappeared.
Oxycontin and phenolphthalein are the two most common and most abused prescription analgesics in the United States. As a tablet drug, this device has a molecular formula similar to that of morphine and is effective in relieving pain and bringing pleasure to people. It is very obvious, and of course the addictiveness is also obvious.
But for some well-known reasons, these addictive drugs, which were supposed to be used only to relieve pain for terminal cancer patients, have been abused to appalling levels.
To make an interesting comparison, if a Serisian catches a cold, the first thing that comes to mind may be to drink more hot water, cover yourself with a quilt and sweat. If the symptoms are severe or the high fever does not go away, then go to the hospital or clinic and get some medication. Cold medicine or antipyretic medicine and a few days of rest will be enough.
Some people may have minor complications due to physical problems, such as pharyngitis. The doctor will prescribe some anti-inflammatory drugs and then ask the nurse to give you fluids for a few hours, and you will basically recover quickly.
Most people basically follow this process, and the cost of this process is not high. Even without medical insurance, most of the time, the cost of treatment is within the reach of most ordinary people.
But in beautiful countries, this is not the case.
Basically, Sanjiang is out of business. I am short of 1,000 follow-up readings, but I still have to put it on the shelves. I hope everyone will not really feed me to death.
You can probably still get full attendance guarantee in the first three months, but it will depend on everyone’s subscription status later.
