Chapter 96: Arkham Knights and the Fatherland
Governors Island, where Eric is located, is 800 yards from Lower Manhattan and covers an area of 172 acres. It is the largest undeveloped land in New York City.
There are 220 buildings on the island, including grand 18th and 19th century buildings, armouries used during the Civil War, and Victorian and Roman buildings.
There are more than 500 permanent residents on the island, mostly building maintenance personnel and equipment management personnel.
Governors Island is open to the public before October every year, when there will be more tourists. It is early winter now, and Governor's Island has been closed, so there are few people and it is quite deserted.
Jack Edwards is a general staff member of the Governors Island Conservation and Education Corporation.
"Governor's Island Preservation and Education Corporation" is a company established by the New York State Government to educate and develop the island's tourism industry. Jack's job inside is to formulate tourism promotions, and he will be busy in the midsummer season.
Either making a promotional page, or busy preparing for the fireworks show.
Fortunately, it is now the off-season, so he can finally relax and enjoy himself.
I rented a bicycle and rode to the nearest bar.
After fifteen minutes of riding, I saw a striking sign: Swift Bar.
The signboard in the shape of a wine bottle swayed in the wind and looked like it would fall down at any time.
It may have been damaged by the strong wind that raged all night yesterday.
Looking at the familiar signboard, Jack seemed to have tasted the taste of the nectar and jade liquid that he was looking forward to.
Push open the Jingle door and enter the bar.
This is a bar with style and willful design.
Dark wood furniture, animal heads, chrome edging, cement floors.
Jack stepped on the familiar floor and looked around.
There were not many people in the bar. A few people in leather jackets were sitting at a table playing cards, and there was a big foaming pitcher on the table.
The disgusting bikers dangled around the pool table, and on the jukebox, the Iron Butterfly was singing loudly: In the gardens of heaven, baby.
Jack walked to the bar and asked the bartender for a glass of whisky.
Just as he was about to chat with the bartender, suddenly the door was slammed open.
The sound was loud, attracting everyone's attention in the bar.
A man in metallic black armor walked in.
Bright black, full of beauty, the armor composed of concave and convex patterns on the surface set off the opponent's perfect figure.
A man who doesn't know the details, wears a black covering helmet on his head.
The lower part of the front of the helmet appears to be a translucent device, allowing him to clearly see what is outside.
The eyes of the helmet emit blue light, like an unknown creature exuding a strange aura.
The most impressive thing is that his chest armor is engraved with a red bat logo.
bat? Does he have anything to do with Batman?
Jack looked at each other and thought wildly.
The mysterious helmeted man who entered the bar looked around with his pair of blue-ray helmet goggles.
Perhaps it was because of his powerful aura that everyone in the bar remained motionless, and the bikers who danced the most on weekdays rarely restrained their violent temper and turned into well-behaved little sheep.
"Excellent bar atmosphere, I'm sorry I came to be a villain! Gentlemen, let me announce to you that you have been kidnapped!"
The mysterious helmet man announced to everyone present with a dull voice.
"what?"
Jack was shocked when he heard the word "kidnapping"!
One person wants to kidnap the whole bar?
As if hearing what Jack was thinking, the mysterious helmet man beckoned, and a team of fully armed gunmen rushed in.
Pong pong pong!
The heavy military boots stomped on the concrete floor, like the approaching footsteps of death.
Armed with automatic weapons, gunmen in tactical helmets are trained to take control of all staff at the bar.
"No, sir, please let me go, I didn't do anything, this...it's not right."
Jack put his hands behind his head, knelt on the ground, and begged the man in the helmet for mercy.
The man in the helmet came over, lowered his head, and looked at Jack.
A dull electronic sound emanated from his helmet, "No, this world is not a question of right and wrong. It is a question of wrong and wrong."
"Everyone is not innocent. As far as I know, most of the serving people on Governor's Island have worked for the Genovese family (the gangster family). Huh! Blackmail, kidnapping, extortion, ostensibly a paradise island, but Just a corrupt hell."
He took out a pistol and aimed it at Jack's neck, "And I am an antidote to this tragic world!"
After the mercenary gunman took everyone out of the bar, the man in the helmet turned on the communicator.
"The plan has already begun! It's up to you, within 72 hours, stop all armed forces from entering the Governor's Island. I want to have fun with the old guy!"
On the other end of the phone came the voice of a native of the motherland, "Arkham Knight, I want to remind you, don't go too far, or the play will not end."
The man in the helmet, Jason Todd, who goes by the alias of Arkham Knight, put away the pistol and said, "Of course, we agreed a good deal. After we catch Batman, I will play a show with youBeat me and save innocent people. Make you a savior and regain the love of the people! Sounds great, doesn't it?"
The sinister voice of the motherland came from the communicator, "Just remember it!"
Hanging up the communicator, Jason raised his head and stretched his neck.
"It's really cool. It's a blast!"
......
Eric soon noticed the change that happened on Governor's Island.
After all, he is now on Governors Island.
Although it is a basement, he has placed a lot of surveillance equipment and alarm devices around the Victorian building that acts as a cover.
First, a large number of helicopters flew into the island from outside, and then rumbling military trucks and tarpaulin-covered transport vehicles drove in in an endless stream.
It's like preparing for a military exercise.
In the surveillance room, Bob looked at the dusty truck and the unknown person, frowning into a Sichuan character, "Is this for our laboratory?"
Eric, who was dragging his chin, shook his head, "No, if it's against us, the other party won't launch such a big momentum. And observing the other party's deployment, it is almost around the island and the fortress. This seems to be a Preparing for a small battle."
Eric felt that the other party was more like preparing to deal with an elite army that burst in from outside.
"In addition," Eric paused, "they kidnapped the people on the island everywhere, and they seem to be planning to plot something, or negotiate with the government, or..."
"Or what?" Bob asked.
"Or forcing someone to show up."
Eric stood up and stared at the panicked people on the monitor, "For example, forcing Batman to show up!"
