Chapter 114 Yuanshi Recruiting Disciples (Third Update)
Yuan Shi was so rigorous and almost harsh when it came to accepting disciples. But as Yuan Shi's brother Tong Tian, his attitude is completely different from Yuan Shi's.
Tongtian believes that Tao is natural, and all things in the world have the nature of Tao. In the three realms, all living beings and everything can become Tao. Anyone who has the heart to follow Tao can worship under his sect.
Regardless of beauty or ugliness, good or evil, high or low, anyone who has the heart to follow the Tao is destined. In Tongtian's eyes, the key to becoming a Taoist lies in whether one has the will to follow the Tao.
Yuanshi also somewhat agrees with Tongtian's idea, otherwise he wouldn't have set up a test to test the Taoist heart. However, his views on the Taoist heart are more harsh than Tongtian.
Everyone has the heart to follow the Tao, otherwise everyone wouldn’t think about cultivating immortality and becoming immortal. But having a heart toward the Tao is not enough. What determines a monk’s future is not just a heart toward the Tao. Yuanshi believed that the main factors that determine a monk's life are: one fate, two luck, three paths, heart, four merits and five talents.
Without that destiny, no matter how strong your heart is towards the Tao, you will not be able to succeed because you don’t have that destiny! Luck is equally important. Those who have deep luck can go further. Those who lack luck will have bumps and bumps along the way. Maybe they will die by accident. How can they still have life to follow the path?
The three Taoist hearts, the Taoist heart here not only points to the Taoist heart, but more importantly, refers to the monk himself. If he works hard enough and has the heart to follow the Tao, his life can be changed and his luck can be taken away.
Merit is about cause and effect, merit is the cause and virtue is the effect. With the protection of merit, you can go further along the way.
Talent is ranked last, because in Yuan Shi's eyes, even if the talent is poor, he can still turn him into a talented person. Talent is a joke in Yuan Shi's eyes. As long as other aspects are met, a person with weak talent can still become a strong person. Being able to become a truly strong person has never depended on talent. Although talent also accounts for a part of it, it is definitely not the most important factor.
Tongtian's criterion for selecting disciples is the heart to follow the Tao. Is it really enough to have the heart to follow the Tao? Then why did Tongtian accept countless monks and call them Ten Thousand Immortals, but only a few could truly become strong in the end?
As soon as the three-layer test started, countless monks rushed forward to take the test. Although most of them knew that they could not pass, they still had a certain sense of luck in their hearts. What if I passed? What's more, even if you don't pass, you won't suffer a loss.
"Brother, are you going to pass the apprenticeship test set by the Holy Lord?" A loose immortal asked a little demon next to him.
"Yes, are you going too?" the little demon said.
"Yes, brother, the test over at Saint Tongtian is the easiest. With your level of cultivation, why don't you go over there for the test instead of coming here?"
Sanxian asked. He looked at the little demon in front of him, and he could see clearly at a glance that he was only in the realm of refining the void and combining the Tao, and had not yet become an immortal. With such a level of cultivation, it would be difficult to pass the test.
"Everyone knows that the Holy Master is the number one saint and has the strongest cultivation. The first choice is of course the Holy Master. If he fails, it is not too late to go to the Tongtian Saint." The little demon said without thinking.
"Yes, the Holy Lord is indeed the strongest saint." Sanxian said,
"Brother, I wish you good luck, I'll go too!" After saying that, he turned into a gust of wind and flew towards the hundred levels to find a way.
Little Demon: "..."
There are countless examples like this. Although most people take a lucky attitude, most of them end up disappointed. Very few can pass the first level, let alone the other levels.
Yuanshi has no time limit, which means you can come and clear the level at any time.
After a hundred years of screening, only a dozen people were able to pass the three levels. There were millions of monks in the prehistoric times, but only a dozen could pass this level. I really don’t know how to explain the odds of this.
Most of those who failed turned to join the Tongtian sect. Even so, Tongtian did not accept them all. He also selectively accepted disciples. Otherwise, he could have become the holy master of the entire prehistoric era.
But even so, he has accepted thousands of disciples, most of whom are registered disciples or ordinary disciples. The true disciples are still the three before. Under the true disciples, there are dozens and nearly hundreds of core disciples above ordinary ones. .
Regarding this, Yuanshi was extremely calm. There has never been a shortage of talents in the prehistoric era. He was already very satisfied if he could receive more than a dozen. After all, he was planning to take the elite route, and the disciples were more skilled than others.
He received a total of seventeen disciples. Among them, in addition to the previous Guangchengzi and Yuding Zhenren, there were also twelve other golden immortals from the Chan Teaching. They were Manjusri Guangfa Tianzun from Wulong Mountain and Jiugong Mountain. Immortal Puxian, Immortal Cihang of Putuo Mountain, Zhenliusun of Jialong Cave, and Immortal Taiyi of Qianyuan Mountain were originally in Taihua Mountain, but later because of the occupation by the Demon Lord of All Tribulations, Wuhua Mountain was chosen as their cave residence. Chi Jingjing, Erxian Mountain Huanglong Zhenren, Jintingshan Daoxing Zhenren, Qingfeng Mountain Qingxu Daode Zhenjun, Kongtong Mountain Lingbao Master.
In addition to the Twelve Golden Immortals, there are also the blessed Yun Zhongzi of Zhongnan Mountain and the Randen Taoist who once listened to the sermon in Zixiao Palace. Ran Deng himself is a good emperor, but unfortunately he is not very lucky. When Ran Deng listened to the sermon, it was the last sermon of the Taoist ancestors. He did not hear much, so that he is still at the peak of Daluo Jinxian.
In addition to them, what really surprised Yuan Shi was that there was a peacock and a roc. Their names were Kong Xuan and Garuda. It was unexpected that they also came to worship as their disciples. It was really surprising.
After Yuanshi thought about it, he finally understood that the prehistoric era he was in now was different from the prehistoric era in his original trajectory. It was understandable that Kong Xuan and Dapengniao came to be their disciples.
Finally, there is a person who is a top-notch immortal material that has been turned into a golden Taoist by opening up his spiritual wisdom. This surprised Yuan Shi again. He had never heard of this man's reputation in the original work. Logically speaking, those who could pass his test would not be ordinary people.
At the same time, he felt a little relieved. This was the prehistoric world. This was a real world, and there were not just those people written in books and recorded in stories.
Except for the Kong Xuan brothers and Golden Taoist, these seventeen disciples were all original disciples in the original work. This made Yuan Shi have to sigh, these people are really destined to him. He has changed the test procedures. These people can still be involved with him.
Looking at the seventeen disciples in front of him, they were all men in rows. There was only one woman, Taoist Cihang. She was transformed from a white lotus in Putuo Mountain, and she was the same as his previous disciple Feng Xiaoyue. . Yuanshi couldn't help but sigh, it's true that the yang is prosperous and the yin is declining.
At this time, he also remembered that if the original trajectory had been followed, several of his disciples would have defected from Chanjiao and devoted themselves to Buddhism. Should these people be eliminated?
But he thought about it carefully and gave up, because he knew that that was the original trajectory, and he was no longer the original primitive. If so, he could teach them away, then he would be a real waste. Moreover, in the original work, they did not wholeheartedly want to betray the Chan religion from the beginning. If the original work was not too primitive, why would they be like this?
In order to prevent similar situations from happening in the future, Yuanshi formulated the following sect rules when they became apprentices:
First, respect your teachers!
Second, don’t deviate from the truth!
Third, the words of the Holy Master are the truth, and the disciples must abide by them!
After the three sect rules were followed, the disciples formed a karmic relationship with Yuan Shi, and Yuan Shi was the master of karma. If they wanted to back them up in the future, they would have to carefully consider the backlash of this karma. Of course, this is only a temporary restriction. As for what will happen to them in the future, it depends on how Yuan Shi teaches his disciples.
How does Yuanshi teach his disciples? This is still a question worth pondering.
