not so pure self-defense
Roughly speaking, all walks of life have their own set of rhetoric to resist the doubts of laymen.
Scientists will say: Are you professionally trained?
Politicians will say: Do you understand the big picture?
Athletes will say: How much sweat did you sweat?
The craftsman will say: Have you done it yourself? How many years have you been doing?
Businessmen will say: How much money have you made? How much is the asset?
The doctor will say: Give you a few Latin terms, do you understand?
Uncle and aunt will say: The bridge I have crossed is longer than the road you have crossed.
...
Of course, the author also has a set of rhetoric. In the face of all doubts, he can refute it with one sentence: Do you know what is a reasonable imagination?
The most powerful rhetoric that is common in all walks of life is: you do what you do.
When using industry clichés to refute doubts, it is a bit perfunctory, but it is still somewhat serious. When you say "you do it, you go", it usually means a little rogue.
The rogue is invincible, and the invincible is lonely, so the rogue doesn't have many friends.
I don't want to be a rogue, and I hope I can be more serious when facing doubts, so I have to say a few more words in addition to the "reasonable imagination" answer.
First of all, I am not a historian, and I am not studying history. I am not even an amateur, and I have never had such an ambition. I have read a lot of historical works, and I am more interested in the small stories in it. Such things can be skipped and ignored, let alone long-form analysis.
So, when someone raises doubts on historical issues, I have nothing to say, but I won't change it, because I can't.
History wants fiction to respect details, but fiction just wants to make history interesting.
My suggestion is that everyone should go their separate ways. Since many historians can learn from novels to write history, it should be no problem for novel authors to steal a few pieces of history, right?
Moreover, the more unrecognizable the history in the novel, the more it proves the professionalism of history itself? If I can faithfully restore the original appearance of history in a novel, shouldn't all the history majors in the university be merged into the liberal arts college?
I believe in the wisdom of readers. No one regards the novel as a real history. After reading it, it is the greatest compliment to the author. If this feeling is slightly similar to reading historical works, it can only prove that human beings Emotional commonality, not fiction instead of history.
Second, "unreasonable" is often said, and my answer is: the historical possibilities are never fully realized.
Of course, this is the opinion of a novelist without any historical expertise.
Give a few examples.
In the thousands of years of history of Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Qin, China was a typical aristocratic system. Suddenly, a commoner Liu Bang became the emperor. It seems normal now. How incredible was it at the time? Just going back ten years, even a saint could not have predicted that such an earth-shaking thing would happen.
Even in comparison with the history of the entire world, in which region has there ever been such a large number of commoner emperors?
When Wang Mang usurped the throne, he was so cautious and like walking on ice. People in the world once thought that the country could only be owned by the Liu family, but from the beginning of the Three Kingdoms until the end of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, usurping the throne became commonplace, and the emperor changed like a lantern. How many people could have expected this when Liu was not king?
Wu Zetian proclaimed the emperor, Zhu Yuanzhang expelled the Mongols, the Manchus entered the customs, the foreign powers invaded... Each of these was an unprecedented strange event, which was unexpected by the predecessors, but the later generations saw the "inevitability".
But the novel does not pursue that kind of "inevitability". As my personal creative experience, contingency is the foundation of the novel: Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty's Battle of Mayi City failed only because of the disclosure of a minor official; Huo Guang was called a great loyal minister. , his wife was extremely vulgar, and even poisoned the queen to death; from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the end of the Three Kingdoms, countless generals died at the hands of assassins. What makes assassins so popular?
As for the title, Cixi likes "Lafayette", and a certain emperor of the Ming Dynasty likes to be called "Laoye", like an ordinary rich man... The desire of the emperor is no different from that of ordinary people, and those dignity and majesty are artificially created When the illusion is broken, there will never be such a thing as divine scourge. If it is broken, it will be broken. Change the dynasty and start from scratch.
After all this talk, let’s go back to the word “reasonable imagination”, let’s be more modest and remove the word “reasonable”. This is all my “imagination”. In my imaginary world, children are doomed. The road is bumpy, but he will keep going, because the world has never promised anyone or any country a smooth road. Rather than fantasizing about smooth sailing, I prefer to see my protagonist become strong.
Finally, I would like to thank all the readers, and by the opportunity of self-defense, my ultimate purpose is to thank the support.
After all, questioning is only a minority, and many questioners like this book very much. Please continue to question. Self-discrimination is thinking, thinking is more possibilities, and more possibilities mean a wider world.
thanks.
