Panda NovelA few days had passed since Yue Tingfeng last saw or heard news regarding Yan Qingsi. For now, he allowed himself to enter a calm state of mind.
He felt that his days have been full of misfortune and it was entirely possible that Yan Qingsi had put a curse on him.
Yet, this peacefulness inadvertently took the excitement out of his life and made him feel that it had become mundane.
Jiang Lai hesitated at the door before knocking and entering the room.
Jiang Lai said, “CEO Yue, something happened but I’m not sure if I should tell you.”
“If you’re unsure then get out.”
Jiang Lai mumbled nervously before he spoke, “Well, the debut press conference for ‘The Scent of Her’ is in preparation. It’s set to take place this coming Friday.”
Yue Tingfeng frowned. “Get out.”
He was not interested in hearing anything concerning the likes of Yan Qingsi.
Jiang Lai trembled with nervousness but quickly finished the remainder of what he had to say. “But the management appears to be leaving Miss Qingsi out of the event. I was thinking… Our company invested a lot of money in getting Miss Qingsi to star as the lead actress. By not inviting Miss Qingsi, this reflects their lack of respect for the Yue company.”
By the time Jiang Lai finished saying his piece, Yue Tingfeng wanted to slap someone with the files on his table. He controlled himself and put the documents down. “Invite the producer and director out to Jade Orchid Pavilion tonight.”
“Yes, sir!”
CEO Yue was going to clean up the mess.
It took some guts to not invite Miss Qingsi.
The CEO was protective of his people. No one was allowed to bully them with the exception of himself.
…
It was night-time at the Jade Orchid Pavilion.
The director and producer of The Scent of Her, as well as the male lead, Song Qingyan, were already seated at the table. Qu Jing was there to entertain them, though Yue Tingfeng was still nowhere to be seen.
From nine o ‘clock to midnight, they drank until their bellies were filled with alcohol but Yue Tingfeng still had not shown up.
Song Qingyan said to Qu Jing, “Mr. Qu, it’s getting late. We have a packed schedule tomorrow…”
Qu Jing interrupted him. “No, no. Stay. CEO Yue will be joining us in a moment.”
The three men could only stay put—mildly exasperated at their extremely tardy investor.
An hour later, Yue Tingfeng finally strolled into the room.
At the appearance of Yue Tingfeng, everyone stood up and greeted, “Mr. Yue.”
Yue Tingfeng shot them a sharp glance. “Looks like I’m late. Sit. I’m taking care of the tab today so drink. No one is leaving sober tonight.”
Internally, the men were crying, ‘More drinking?’
The last person to arrive would usually be punished to drink three glasses but since it was Yue Tingfeng, no one dared suggest it.
Yue Tingfeng sat down and gestured for the ladies in the room to fill up their glasses. There were bottles of white wine, whiskey, and red wine, all mixed together. “I’m driving later so I can’t drink. So please, everyone, drink on my behalf.”
Everyone in the room felt that something was off. It felt like it was set-up intentionally so they could not reject the gesture, as to not disrespect the tycoon standing before them.
Although the thought was in everyone’s mind, no one dared to say a word. They gulped down their drinks in one go. They could feel the burning sensation as the alcohol traveled down their throats.
Director Guo Zekai attempted to lighten the mood and joked, “Not to be disrespectful but if it was plausible, I’d have Mr. Yue join us as the male lead. Your features and qualities are exceptional.”
Guo Zekai did not give false praise. Every time they met, he would lament the fact that someone as handsome and distinguished as Yue Tingfeng did not end up as an actor. It was a loss for the entertainment industry.
Yue Tingfeng raised an eyebrow. “I’d rather throw money at people and watch them act for me.”
