Chapter 814 Prison Break (Part 4)
"Of course, ah. No, I mean, I'm here to provide assistance."
The young black agent was wearing a thin jacket with the DEA logo and a gold DEA badge on his chest. His honest face was still confused and shocked, as if he hadn't figured out what was going on just now.
"Then come with us, we need the DEA's intelligence support." Jubal smiled.
Just as he was about to lead everyone back to the temporary large office in the prison prepared for the FBI, Sheriff Roland and his cell phone rang almost at the same time.
The helicopter was found and crashed in the forest less than 15 miles southeast of the prison.
——
"I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Greg Gelson from the DEA Philadelphia office." The young black agent who had been secretly looking at Jack since getting in the car finally couldn't help but take the initiative to speak and break the silence.
The other members of the wanted criminal team had been sent out before. Jack originally planned to go to the scene of the accident alone, leaving Jubal and Alice behind.
But as the saying goes, don't hit a smiling person. Since the DEA agent volunteered to go to the scene with him, he couldn't refuse it outright.
Although Jack had guessed before that the DEA should have a dirty trick in this matter, he had no real evidence. It was simply because of his "prejudice" against the CIA and the DEA.
Secondly, this agent Gerson was obviously not very experienced. At first glance, he was the kind of person who was blocked in front and used as cannon fodder, just like Jane Banner, who was selected by CAI to serve as a liaison in Mexico.
There was no need to embarrass such a person. Just be more careful later. Thinking of this, Jack smiled and nodded in response, "Jack Tavoler, deputy leader of the wanted criminal team, nice to meet you."
Originally, because Jack had a gloomy face and didn't say a word after getting in the car, Agent Gerson, who was a little nervous, suddenly became enthusiastic after hearing this.
"God knows, I just received a call from my superiors three hours ago, and I drove here immediately. They said that the FBI was in charge of this case, and the DEA was just providing assistance."
Jack continued to smile back and found a plausible reason, "In fact, we welcome the assistance of the DEA. Sorry, I was just distracted just now.
I feel very bad when I think about how many innocent people will be killed by a brutal drug lord like Maldonado if he regains his freedom."
Agent Gelson was slightly stunned. With his level, he really didn't know about the "glorious exploits" Jack had made during his several missions to Mexico, but as a field agent of the DEA Philadelphia office, he had heard some rumors.
Not to mention the Charlotte shootout that shocked the whole United States not long ago, which even the President personally asked about. This team affiliated with the FBI New York Office had just been rebuilt and had already gained considerable fame within the federal law enforcement system.
However, the young DEA agent never expected that Jack, as the deputy leader of this extraordinary team, would show such a compassionate attitude. He could not tell the truth from the false for a while, and could only nod his head in agreement.
"That's right. Even among the drug lords known for their cruelty, El Pincho is a special existence."
Hearing Agent Gelson's insincere agreement, Jack was slightly stunned, "El Pincho?"
"Yes, Maldonado's nickname. During his rise to power, he once nailed a man to the wall with a broken shovel. The man wailed for a whole night before he died. After several days, people dared to collect the body of the dead."
Pincho means shovel. When Agent Gelson said this, he subconsciously swallowed his saliva.
"No, I heard that he once tortured and killed an undercover agent of your DEA in Monterrey, so to us, he is just Esteban Martin Maldonado, and we should not mention this nickname to deify him."
Jack righteously corrected Agent Gerson's statement. Before he could continue to explain, he turned the steering wheel slightly and the car stopped next to a forest. "We are here."
It was still the secondary forest composed of those common deciduous trees in North America. The humus layer formed by the accumulation of fallen leaves over the years exuded an unpleasant smell in the summer sun, mixed with an even more unpleasant burnt smell.
"The pilot's skills are good." Jack whistled with a hint of sarcasm. A small clearing appeared in front of the two of them. It was very small, an irregular circle with a diameter of less than ten meters, which might have been formed after the rotten trees fell.
The crashed helicopter landed on a slightly raised mound of earth in the open space. The tail was almost completely broken, but the cabin was intact. A puff of green smoke rose from the burned cab to the sky, which was the source of the unpleasant burnt smell.
Several state police were pointing at a charred body in the cab. Two pickup trucks seemed to have just arrived, and several K9 police officers were getting off with the Paw Patrol.
"Ugh." Agent Gelson vomited almost as soon as he saw the charred body. Jack walked straight to the wreckage of the helicopter and observed it carefully, as if he hadn't seen it.
"Have you found any other bodies?" After looking at the bodies, Jack showed his ID to a state police officer. It was so hot that he didn't bother to wear a coat with FBI letters printed on it after leaving the air conditioner.
The state police shook his head, "No, sir, we have searched the surrounding area within a hundred meters."
Then he pointed to the Paw Patrol who had just arrived, "So we called in K9, hoping they can find some footprints or something."
Jack nodded to express his gratitude and turned to walk towards Agent Gelson who had just delivered nutrients to the forest.
"Simic and Maldonado escaped, the pilot had a broken leg and a bullet in the head. Whether they were killed as a burden or were shown the last mercy because they were trapped in the burning cabin, it will take the forensic doctor to judge."
"Wasn't it intentional to burn the body?" Agent Gelson didn't dare to look at the charred body again and forced himself to turn his head away.
"Logically, they should be more worried about being exposed by the smoke during the fire. I guess this is just an accident. It is obvious that not only the aircraft engine but also the fuel tank was shot. The helicopter also basically leaked out of fuel when it made an emergency landing.
Soon after landing, the circuit ignited the remaining aviation gasoline, but because it rained frequently in the past few days, it did not cause a forest fire. This time, the goddess of luck is on our side again."
Jack said this, but he sighed secretly in his heart. God knows how many innocent lives will be lost on the escape of these two murderers.
